We provide personalised shipping quotes rather than automated online checkout prices.
How do I send a package overseas from New Zealand?
To send a package overseas, provide the collection location, destination, description of the goods, number of packages and packed weight and dimensions of each package.
Send Stuff reviews these details and prepares a personalised shipping quote based on the available freight arrangements.
Can individuals use Send Stuff?
Yes. Send Stuff assists individuals, travellers, students and people relocating internationally with suitable personal belongings and general goods.
Can I ship just one box or suitcase?
Yes. You can request a quote for one box, one suitcase or several packages. Provide the packed dimensions and weight of each package.
Can Send Stuff help me move overseas?
Yes. We can assess shipments of suitable personal belongings including clothing, books, luggage and moving boxes. Large furniture and complete household moves require separate freight assessment.
International Shipping Quotes & Costs
Answers about freight pricing, chargeable weight, shipping quotations and additional charges.
How much does it cost to ship a box overseas from NZ?
The cost depends on the destination, collection and delivery locations, weight, dimensions, contents and available shipping services.
Send Stuff provides individual quotes based on your shipment details rather than advertising one universal price.
How much does it cost to send a suitcase from NZ to Australia?
The cost depends on the suitcase's packed weight and dimensions, collection location in New Zealand and delivery address in Australia.
Provide these details through our quote form so we can assess the available shipping options.
Can I get an instant shipping quote online?
Send Stuff does not currently offer instant online prices or automated shipping bookings.
Each enquiry is reviewed individually before a personalised quote is provided.
What information do you need for a shipping quote?
We generally need:
- Collection suburb or postcode
- Destination city or postcode
- Description of the contents
- Number of packages
- Packed weight of each package
- Length, width and height of each package
- Details of restricted or unusual items
What is volumetric weight in international shipping?
Volumetric weight is calculated using the space a package occupies rather than its physical weight alone.
Freight providers may charge using the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. The calculation method varies by carrier and service.
Is it cheaper to ship multiple boxes together?
Shipping multiple boxes together can sometimes be more efficient, but savings are not guaranteed. Pricing depends on the number of packages, combined shipment details and available freight arrangements.
Are customs duties and taxes included in the shipping price?
Customs duties, import taxes, clearance fees and inspection charges may apply separately.
Do not assume these charges are included unless your written shipping quotation expressly states otherwise.
Personal Effects, Suitcases & Excess Baggage
Shipping personal belongings, luggage and moving boxes internationally.
Can I ship personal belongings overseas?
Yes. Send Stuff can assess shipments of suitable personal belongings, including clothing, shoes, books and other packed household items.
Acceptance depends on the goods, destination, packaging and carrier.
Can I send a suitcase overseas without flying?
Yes. A suitable suitcase can be shipped internationally without the owner travelling on the same flight.
It travels as a freight shipment rather than passenger checked baggage.
What is excess baggage shipping?
Excess baggage shipping means sending belongings separately from your airline's checked baggage allowance.
This can be useful for students, travellers and people relocating overseas with additional belongings.
Can I ship clothes internationally?
Yes. Suitable clothing can generally be assessed for international shipping. Clothes should be clean, dry, securely packed and accurately declared for customs purposes.
Can I ship used personal effects overseas?
Yes. Used personal belongings can often be shipped internationally, subject to destination customs requirements and import restrictions.
Used goods are not automatically exempt from import duties or taxes.
Can I send several moving boxes overseas?
Yes. Send Stuff can assess shipments containing multiple moving boxes.
Provide the packed weight, dimensions and contents of every box when requesting a quote.
Can I ship sports equipment overseas?
We can assess suitable sports equipment including golf clubs, skis, snowboards and other sporting goods.
Oversized equipment may require specialist packaging or freight arrangements.
Packaging, Weight & Size Limits
Prepare your international shipment correctly before collection.
What is the maximum package weight for Send Stuff?
Send Stuff's standard shipping limit is 25 kg per individual package.
Heavier packages may be considered through alternative freight arrangements following a separate assessment.
Can I ship three boxes weighing 20 kg each?
Yes. Three individually packed 20 kg boxes can be assessed as one multi-package shipment.
The standard 25 kg limit applies to each package, not the combined shipment weight.
Can I ship a box weighing more than 25 kg?
Packages over 25 kg fall outside our standard package limit and require a bespoke freight assessment.
Acceptance depends on the weight, dimensions, contents, route and available handling arrangements.
Is there a maximum box size for international shipping?
There is no single universal maximum box size covering every international shipping service.
Dimension restrictions depend on the carrier, destination and freight arrangements. Oversized packages require individual assessment.
How should I pack a box for international shipping?
Use a strong cardboard carton suitable for the weight of the contents. Wrap fragile items, fill empty spaces, seal the box securely and prevent items moving during transport.
Prepare an accurate packing list and remove old shipping labels before dispatch.
Can I use a second-hand cardboard box?
A reused box may be suitable if it is strong, dry, undamaged and appropriate for the shipment.
Remove or cover old shipping labels and barcodes.
Can I ship fragile items internationally?
Fragile items may be considered depending on the goods and available shipping service.
Appropriate protective packaging is essential. Carrier restrictions and liability limitations may apply.
Do I need to weigh and measure my package?
Yes. Accurate packed weight and dimensions help determine freight pricing and acceptance.
Measure the outside of the finished package, including protruding handles or packaging.

Customs, Import Duties & Shipping Documents

Do personal belongings need a customs declaration?
International shipments generally require accurate customs information, including shipments containing used personal belongings.
Requirements vary by country, shipment type and carrier.
Do I pay import tax on used personal effects?
Import taxes or duties may apply. Some countries offer exemptions for qualifying personal effects or people relocating overseas.
Eligibility depends on the destination country's rules. Used goods are not automatically exempt from import charges.
Do I need to list everything inside my shipping box?
You should provide clear and accurate descriptions of the contents, including quantities and values where required.
Avoid vague descriptions such as "stuff" or "miscellaneous goods", which may cause customs delays.
Can I mark an international shipment as a gift?
Only describe goods as a gift when they genuinely meet the relevant customs definition.
Marking goods as a gift does not automatically remove import duties, taxes or declaration requirements.
Can customs inspect my international package?
Yes. Customs and biosecurity authorities may inspect international shipments.
Inspections can affect delivery times and may result in additional requirements or charges.
What value should I declare for used belongings?
Declare the goods accurately according to the destination country's customs valuation rules.
Do not deliberately understate values or provide false information.
Prohibited Items, Lithium Batteries & Dangerous Goods

What items cannot be shipped overseas?
Restrictions vary by carrier and destination. Potentially restricted items include lithium batteries, flammable liquids, aerosols, chemicals, weapons and other hazardous or regulated goods.

Battery shipping enquiries can be assessed through our sister business, DG Solutions.

E-bike batteries require specialist dangerous goods assessment and cannot be treated as ordinary personal effects.
DG Solutions can assess eligible battery shipments based on the battery model, watt-hour rating, condition and shipping route.

Do not include power banks in ordinary shipping boxes without declaring them first.
Power banks contain lithium batteries and are subject to transport restrictions.

Acceptance depends on the device, battery specifications, condition, destination and available service. Always declare the device.

We can refer the enquiry for specialist assessment through DG Solutions.
