How volumetric weight works
Large, lightweight parcels can occupy more space than their actual weight suggests. Shipping services therefore compare physical weight with dimensional (volumetric) weight.
Example: a 60 × 40 × 40 cm box has a volumetric weight of 19.2 kg. If it weighs 12 kg, the estimated chargeable weight is 19.2 kg.
Before you measure
Measure the outside of your fully packed carton, including bulges and protruding parts. This calculator rounds each dimension up to the next whole centimetre.
Send Stuff's standard limit is 25 kg actual weight per individual package. Heavier packages need separate assessment.
Common questions
What is the difference between actual and volumetric weight?
Actual weight is what your packed parcel weighs on a scale. Volumetric weight estimates how much space it takes up in transit. The greater figure is generally used as the basis for chargeable weight, subject to service-specific rounding rules.
Why does a large lightweight box cost more to ship?
A large box can use substantial space in an aircraft or vehicle even if it is light. Volumetric weight accounts for that space when estimating the shipping weight.
Can I calculate several boxes at once?
Yes. Add each box separately. The calculator compares actual and volumetric weight for each package, then totals the estimated chargeable weights.
Is this an exact shipping quote?
No. The tool estimates shipping weight, not shipping prices. Final charges depend on the destination, service, measurements and any applicable carrier rounding or surcharges. Request a personalised quote .
